Shonda Smith is the Events Director at Just Safe, where she leads the design and delivery of impactful local and national events that advance the organization’s mission of community engagement and social change. In partnership with colleagues across the organization, she is helping to develop the Just Safe Speakers Bureau and working with influencers who use their platforms to elevate our organization’s mission and vision.

A seasoned nonprofit leader, Shonda brings deep expertise in event management, fundraising, public relations, content strategy, and brand-building. Her career spans powerhouse organizations including the Harlem Children’s Zone, Girl Scouts of the USA, MADRE, and the Innocence Project. Known for building meaningful partnerships, she has collaborated with prominent activists and public figures committed to advancing racial and socioeconomic justice.

A proud Brooklyn native and daughter of Caribbean immigrants from Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados, Shonda holds a BA in Journalism from SUNY New Paltz and an MS in Publishing from New York University. A published author, she finds joy in travel, live music, spending time with family and close friends, spirited games of Scrabble and Spades, and amplifying the stories of everyday people doing extraordinary things.
